International action – Kumbara project (1/17/2015)
We take advantage of REM in Istanbul to work together with our friends from the Rotaract Club Istanbul Dolmabahce to carry out their longtime Kumbara project. In one of Istanbul’s shopping malls is an area where shoppers donate their second hand clothes, toys and books to the less fortunate. Upon an agreement we had previously made with the administrators of the mall, we pack and ship these materials to villages and schools in need of assistance. When we visited the mall, we gathered the clothes, toys and books left at the mall, sorted them and packed them to be sent to Batman, one of the poorest and coldest cities in Turkey where there are many children who are uneducated and many people who have a hard time making it through the winter. Hopefully, with this small gift for the people of Batman, we can make a small but positive change in their lives.
